Thomas Smith
Superintendent
With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Thomas has developed a diverse skill set spanning equipment operation, mechanics, and large-scale project management. Growing up in the remote bush of British Columbia, he learned the fundamentals of construction and heavy equipment operation from his father, laying the groundwork for his career. Over the years, he has worked in both civil and commercial construction, operating heavy machinery, leading crews, and managing multiple job sites. His experience includes owning and operating his own business and working in remote locations across Alaska, bringing a wealth of expertise to every project he undertakes.
Outside of work, Thomas finds his greatest joy in spending time with family and friends. Living in Alaska provides endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, and he feels fortunate to share these experiences across four generations of his family. Whether hunting in the Brooks Range, fishing in Prince William Sound, or simply gathering in the backyard, he cherishes every moment spent together.
Passionate about mentorship, Thomas takes pride in passing on his knowledge and skills to the next generation of carpenters and leaders. Seeing his crew grow in their abilities and confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work, and he is committed to fostering that development.
What Thomas values most about SD Construction is the company’s strong commitment to family and integrity. He appreciates the balance between professional success and personal well-being that SD cultivates, creating a work environment built on excellence, respect, and genuine care for its employees. For Thomas, being part of a team that prioritizes integrity and teamwork is both an honor and a privilege.
